CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Columbus-area television station is hot on the trail of serious allegations lodged against Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.

WCMH-TV, NBC 4 Investigates reported on Thursday they are following allegations of systemic problems inside the hospital, as reported by Jamie Ostroff. According to NBC 4, the station had previously exposed claims of sexual misconduct against two doctors at Adena Medical Center and how hospital administrators reacted to those claims. Now, NBC 4 has learned from sources inside the Chillicothe hospital with direct knowledge of its inner workings that, on as many as three patients, a cardiac surgery was performed by a doctor who was not properly credentialed.

The procedure in question is a “Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR),” a relatively new surgery to replace a damaged heart valve without cutting open the patient’s chest.

“It is highly specialized and complex,” said one source with direct knowledge who spoke to NBC 4 on the condition of anonymity, adding that they have “a general concern about safety of the patients at the hospital.”
