WHEELERSBURG, Ohio — Three people were involved in a serious motorcycle accident on Thursday evening in Scioto County. The Ohio Highway Patrol received a call at 4:53 pm regarding a three-vehicle crash on Lang Slocum Road, just south of Hammerstein Road. The crash involved two motorcycles and a Ford Fusion.
According to the police report, Austin W. Hodge, 21, of West Portsmouth, was driving a 2005 Honda motorcycle, and Danny Smith, 28, of New Boston, was driving a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle. Both motorcycles went left of center and collided with the Ford Fusion, driven by Crystal Smith, 44, of Scioto Furnace. Ms. Smith was not injured in the crash, but Mr. Smith was treated at the scene for his injuries.

Mr. Hodge suffered head injuries and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center by Porter Township EMS. Later, he was transferred to a hospital in Columbus for further treatment of his injuries. The authorities stated that impairment was not suspected in the accident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol emphasized that all motorcyclists should wear helmets and travel at safe speeds to avoid accidents like this. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
