PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — The Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) hosted its annual Spring Event on April 4th, 2023, at the Pike County Fairgrounds multipurpose building. The event drew over 400 local residents, offering a fun and educational atmosphere for families to enjoy. CAC’s Events Committee members, local businesses, and agency partners provided candy, giveaway items, games, and information on services available in the area.
Children eagerly participated in an Easter egg hunt, with over 4,500 candy-filled eggs divided among age groups. It is estimated that more than 500 kids collected eggs in under five minutes. SOCS Wireless generously donated 3,000 eggs, showcasing their support and dedication to the community.
A unique petting zoo, provided by Barker’s Family Farm, served as a major highlight of this year’s event. Children enjoyed interacting with animals, including a porcupine, goats, a mini cow, rabbits, and Daniel the Camel. They also learned interesting facts about each animal.
The Easter Bunny made an appearance, interacting with children, posing for photos, and distributing treats. Local businesses engaged the community with games and face painting. The Pike County Sheriff’s Department set up an Ident-a-Kid station, offering the service to parents at no cost. Local businesses and agencies also shared information about job opportunities and supportive services available to those in need.
Keith Pitts, President & CEO of CAC, remarked, “Hosting these events not only brings the community together but connects them with many services they would otherwise not know about.”
The Events Committee extended its gratitude to SOCS Wireless, Barker’s Family Farm, participating businesses and agency representatives, and patrons for their contributions to the event’s success. The Committee also recognized its members’ dedication and commitment to providing such events that positively impact the community.
