CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police in Chillicothe arrested a man suspected of brandishing a gun in a parking lot on Thursday, April 27.
Authorities were dispatched to the Speedway gas station on East Main Street after receiving a report of a suspicious male with a gun. Upon arriving on the scene, police found the male, wearing a gray sweatshirt, walking in the parking lot.
According to police, the male claimed that the gun was a BB gun and began to reach for it. The responding officer confiscated the gun and asked the male to grab the front of the police car. However, the suspect started walking backward and argued with the officer. Reports say that when the officer got closer, the suspect ran away and crossed the road toward the Wendy’s restaurant. Officer in their report said they pursued the man, and caught him behind Wendy’s in the driveway to America’s Best Value Inn.

The suspect was identified as Lee Aaron Michael Cupp, who had an active felony warrant out for his arrest from the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office. Upon his arrest, officers found a new unopened syringe on his person, a black case with two liters inside, and a card with his name on it. In addition, a plastic container was discovered containing a baggie of white powder believed to be an illegal drug.
Cupp was transported to the Ross County Jail and booked on charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest, and the active felony warrant from the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office. The white powder will be sent to the lab for testing, and the appropriate charges for drug possession will follow at a later date. The gun was examined and found to be a BB gun.
