HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — Tragedy struck Highland County overnight when a utility terrain vehicle crash occurred early Saturday morning.
According to troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 15-year-old passenger was killed in the accident.
Troopers reported that a 16-year-old was operating an Axis 500 UTV and traveling eastbound on Beatty around 12:25 a.m. when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, collided with an embankment, and overturned. This caused the 15-year-old passenger to be ejected and trapped under the vehicle, leading to their death at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries, although the troopers have stated that they are not life-threatening. The driver was taken to the hospital for medical attention. The identity of the driver and the passenger has not yet been released by the authorities.
