CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On April 29, Chillicothe police were dispatched to 411 E. Second St after a report of a possible death. The caller, reports say, claimed to have seen a dead body through an apartment window.
Upon arrival, officers located Apartment 4, as described by the caller. They made contact with Nathan Wolford, who initially denied knowledge of any deceased person inside the apartment. Wolford informed officers that George Denney lived at the apartment but had not been seen for seven days. Officers gained consent from Wolford to enter the apartment to check for a deceased person and discovered the body of George Denney in the bathroom. Chillicothe EMS pronounced Denney’s time of death at 8:32 p.m.
Wolford was placed in investigative custody due to his contradictory statements regarding Denney, said the officers. During questioning, Wolford allegedly provided multiple versions of events, ultimately leading to the discovery of another man, Gabe Nunier, hiding in a kitchen cabinet. Nunier was secured in hand restraints and provided conflicting information about his identity and the situation. Officers eventually confirmed Nunier’s identity through a photo from Fayette County, Indiana.
Wolford and Nunier were transported to the Ross County Jail and booked on charges of failure to report a death and obstructing official business.
The Ross County Coroner’s Office arrived and documented the scene, finding Denney lying face down with hypodermic syringes in both hands. Evidence, including two iPhones, a piece of aluminum foil, a rubber container, and a DVR recorder box, was collected by the police. Haller Funeral Home took possession of Denney’s body.
