CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Two Chillicothe teenagers are facing charges of assault and discharging a firearm after they allegedly shot two teens walking home from school with a “Splat Gun” on Monday. The incident, according to the police report, occurred when a maroon car pulled up to the victims and the passenger allegedly started shooting at them with what was believed to be an airsoft/pellet gun. The victims were reportedly hit multiple times, with one receiving injuries to their leg.
One of the victims provided the name of one of the passengers, as well as a picture of the car and its license plate number. Police traced the car to a residence on Church Street and spoke with the registered owner who stated that their son was driving the car at the time of the incident. The police interviewed the driver, who claimed that the idea to shoot the victims came from the other three passengers in the car.
Officers then interviewed the other teens involved, who claimed that they hit the victims accidentally and that it was not intentional. The teens provided investigators with the “splat guns” used in the incident. Splat guns are a type of toy gun that fires water or gel-filled pellets, and some models shoot at high velocities that can cause injury.
Charges have been requested for two of the teens, but their names have been withheld due to their ages.
