HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A man is now in custody following a tense SWAT standoff in Highland County that resulted in the closure of Route 50 and a local school district being placed on lockdown on Wednesday. The incident unfolded yesterday afternoon near Allensburg, prompting an investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at the request of the Highland County and Clermont County sheriffs. According to a representative from the Attorney General’s Office, the investigation involved an officer-involved shooting, but no officers were injured in the incident.
Authorities have refrained from providing further details to the media about the exact nature of the incident and the circumstances that led to the standoff.
As a precautionary measure due to the high police presence in the area and the potential presence of an armed suspect, the Lynchburg-Clay School District initiated a lockdown at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Although the incident did not directly involve the campus, the lockdown was enacted to ensure the safety of students and staff. The lockdown remained in place until around 3:45 p.m., at which point students were released.
After nearly nine hours of negotiation and tense standoff, the situation reached its conclusion when two SWAT teams successfully entered the residence where the suspect had barricaded himself. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed at this time.
