HOCKING COUNTY, Ohio — In a warrant arrest operation carried out by The Hocking County Sheriff’s Interdiction Unit on Tuesday, May 16, two individuals attempted to evade authorities, only to be captured following a brief foot pursuit. The incident unfolded at a residence near Carbon Hill, prompting a response from law enforcement officials.
Upon arrival deputies encountered two individuals who later came to be identified as John LaDeaux and Steven Dye. Fleeing on foot from a vehicle parked in the driveway, the duo set off a pursuit that would ultimately lead to their capture.
The first suspect, John LaDeaux, was swiftly apprehended while attempting to steal a gas-powered utility vehicle. Despite his fleeting efforts, law enforcement officers managed to subdue LaDeaux before he could escape. Shortly thereafter, Steven Dye, the second suspect, was also taken into custody following a brief foot chase. It was later discovered that both LaDeaux and Dye had numerous active arrest warrants issued by other law enforcement agencies.
After the suspects’ apprehension, detectives returned to the scene where the foot pursuit originated, aiming to uncover any potential evidence left behind by the fleeing individuals. To their observation, prior to the chase, John LaDeaux and Steven Dye were seen tampering with tools underneath the vehicle.
In light of this discovery, a probable cause search was conducted, leading to the discovery of several drug paraphernalia items and smoking apparatuses within the stolen vehicle. Furthermore, the car itself was reported stolen from Athens County, featuring an unconventional paint job using various colors of spray paint and lacking a license plate.
Both John LaDeaux and Steven Dye were subsequently arrested and transferred to the South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail. They now await arraignment and extradition in relation to their multiple outstanding arrest warrants issued by various law enforcement agencies.
