CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe woman has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to her part in hiding the remains of a missing local man. Shelly McGuire and her codefendant Brad Lanman were indicted in December 2022 on multiple charges related to the death of Larry Davis Jr., who was reported missing in March of that year. Davis’s remains were found in July, inside a plastic tote at a residence on Poplar Street in Chillicothe.

According to sources, detectives executed a search warrant on the property, during which they discovered items belonging to Davis. Lanman subsequently pleaded guilty to concealing Davis’s remains and was sentenced to eight ½ years in prison.

Shelly K. McGuire also took a plea deal in which prosecutors said they would recommend judicial release after 12 months. Sources close to the victim’s family say that McGuire was in a relationship with Lanman at the time of the discovery of Davis’s remains. McGuire faced charges of tampering with evidence, attempted abuse of a corpse, and failure to report a death. As part of her plea deal, all charges except the tampering with evidence were dropped.

The cause of Davis’s death has not been released by authorities, leaving many in the community wondering if someone may have gotten away with murder.
