The head-on collision happened near old route 50 — better known as Dixon Mills Road — at around 3:30 p.m. in Vinton County.

A sedan and SUV collided on a curve at speeds exceeding 55 miles per hour, troopers said.

One person was ejected from the crash, according to initial reports, while others were trapped and had to be extricated.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene and flew one person to a trauma hospital.

Troopers told the Guardian that Austin Coleman, 28, McArthur, was the person driving the sedan while Theodore Cleary, 46, Londonderry was taken to Adena by ambulance from the SUV. The passengers of the Ford Escape, Tracy Waldron, 46, Elma Yoder, 20, and Amy Troyer, 14, were treated for minor injuries by Vinton County E.M.S. at the scene.

Troopers said that Coleman’s sedan crossed the center line and hit the SUV head-on.
