CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A man was rescued from a sandbar in a river in Chillicothe on Monday.

According to reports, one person swam out to a sandbar in the middle of the Scioto River. Witnesses told dispatchers that the man laid down on the sandbar on his stomach and was not moving for nearly an hour.

Deputies called for a boat, while several fire departments responded. Once a boat was launched with medics and deputies, the team made their way to the middle of the river.

The man, who had been agitated by a drone, begun kicking his feet and yelling obscenities.

Medics and deputies made their way onto the small island and the man rose up and talked to them. The man, whose name has not been released, talked to first responders and voluntarily got into the boat.

The events surrounding why the man swam to the sandbar and refused to acknowledge yells from those on the banks was not immediately known.

He was transported by EMS to the local hospital in stable condition.
