CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — In response to recurring speeding problems on neighborhood streets, the City of Chillicothe has launched a comprehensive Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program. The initiative aims to address the issue of dangerous speeding and improve safety for all road users.

The program will target specific neighborhood streets that have been identified as high-risk areas for speeding. These streets include S. Watt Street, Allen Avenue, Piatt Avenue, and Tritscheller Road near Yoctangee Park. By focusing on these locations, the city hopes to create a long-term solution that will effectively reduce speeding and enhance safety.

The efforts under the program will include a combination of measures such as targeted traffic enforcement, the installation of speed signs, speed bumps, and the implementation of demonstration pop-ups using traffic circles, bump outs, and chicanes. These measures are aimed at slowing down traffic and creating a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program will be executed in three main phases, officials said, with the four-month project culminating in recommendations for permanent solutions. The program will also provide education on traffic calming measures, going beyond relying solely on police enforcement.
