CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A bizarre series of events happened Saturday morning in Chillicothe when the son of the town’s police chief crashed the family car into the police department.
It happened before noon at the Chillicothe Police Department located at 28 N. Paint Street in downtown. According to reports, Chief Ron Meyers’ teenage son was driving the Honda Accord when it slammed into the police department. The vehicle impacted the building exactly where the chief’s office is, next to a captain’s desk.
It is unknown what events led up to the crash, but many locals are questioning the series of events. Why was the son driving his father’s car; why did the vehicle crash into the building to begin with; and what are the odds that the impact happened to his father’s office in a building that takes up half a city block?
The younger Meyers was issued a citation by his dad’s own police department for failure to control and weaving, according to the police report. The vehicle’s airbags were deployed and had to be towed from the scene by Chillicothe Towing. Another question on local’s minds: why wasn’t the Highway Patrol called to handle the crash report? Why did a subordinate of the chief handle it?
After the scene was cleaned up, the chief was seen walking into Fifty West Brewing Company and ordered alcohol.
This is not the first time the chief’s Honda Pilot has made headlines. In 2021, the SUV was allegedly stolen, involved in a pursuit, and used in the heist of a local dollar store.
