WASHINGTON, D.C. — Perdue Premium Meat Company, Inc., operating as Alexander & Hornung, a Saint Clair Shores, Mich., establishment, is initiating a recall of approximately 3,204 pounds of fully cooked beef wiener products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today. The product in question may actually contain smoked sausage, which includes milk, a known allergen, without proper declaration on the wiener product label.

The fully cooked beef wiener items were manufactured on May 3, 2023. The following product is subject to recall [view label]:
- 2-lbs. vacuum-sealed packages labeled as “BROOKSIDE BRAND FULLY COOKED NATURAL CASING BEEF WIENERS” with the lot code 3121, case code 07658, and sell-by date of 8/1/23.
The recalled product bears the establishment number “EST 10125” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were distributed to retail locations across Ohio.

The issue came to light when the establishment notified FSIS that one of their customers reported receiving product labeled as beef wieners in cartons labeled as hot smoked sausage. Subsequent investigation revealed that the vacuum-sealed packages labeled as beef wieners actually contained the smoked sausages.
To date, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these products. However, individuals who are concerned about an injury or illness should seek medical advice.
FSIS is concerned that some of the affected products may be present in consumers’ refrigerators. It is strongly advised that consumers who have purchased these items do not consume them. Instead, the products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS regularly conducts checks to ensure the effectiveness of recalls, verifying that recalling companies have notified their customers about the recall and taken appropriate measures to remove the product from consumer access. Retail distribution lists, when available, will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
