PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A man lost his life after falling into a manhole at the Norfolk Southern Railyard in Pickaway County.
It happened at around noon on Monday when deputies from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, along with various Fire and EMS personnel, were dispatched to the scene.
When they arrived at the rail yard they found that an employee of the Rock River Construction company had been working on a sewer line within the property when he momentarily emerged from the manhole, only to fall back down approximately 30 feet. The deputies swiftly located the man, trapped within the manhole amidst heavily flowing water.
Despite the best efforts of the rescue personnel, Terry Miller Jr., 34, Amanda, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Miller’s body was sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the incident is currently under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
