ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported assault on staff at the Juvenile Detention Center on Cattail Road. 

According to a report provided by the sheriff’s office, on July 8,  deputies were dispatched to 182 Cattail Road.

The staff member, reports state, was escorting the detainee back to their cell when they allegedly became aggressive. The detainee, per the report, shoved the staff member backward, causing them to lose balance, and proceeded to strike them multiple times in the head. The staff member called for assistance, and the detainee was returned to their cell without further incident.

Deputies reported that video footage showed the staff member attempting to protect themselves and backing away from the detainee’s aggression.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say that new charges against the youth could be forthcoming.
