Running from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants will have a unique opportunity to learn about the construction of the Ohio & Erie Canal and gain insights into the key figures responsible for its development. They will explore the various roles associated with the canal, such as that of a canal boat captain, a canal boat builder, and a teamster responsible for guiding the horses and mules that pulled the boats along the canal. The program features a guided tour of the canal exhibit at the museum, hands-on craft activities related to the canal, and engaging participation in outdoor children’s games popular during that era. Attendees can also look forward to refreshments provided during the event.

The Summer Children’s Program will be held on the picturesque grounds of the Knoles Log House, located behind the Ross County Heritage Center at 45 West Fifth Street, Chillicothe.
