SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A man is in custody after he allegedly attacked a sheriff’s deputy and nearly drowned him in a pond.
The incident happened on Monday, August 21, in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. A property owner called 911 to report that there were squatters on his property. When deputies arrived, they saw a man running away from the house. The man, who was later identified as Richard Michael Turner, ran down a hill and jumped into a pond.

A deputy gave chase and was able to get the suspect out of the water. However, Turner then grabbed the deputy’s radio and held it so the deputy could not call for help. The two men struggled, and Turner eventually got the deputy in a headlock and dragged him underwater. The deputy blacked out and almost drowned.
Turner fled the scene, but he was later arrested after deputies found him hiding in the woods. He is facing charges of attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, felonious assault on a peace officer, obstructing official business, and breaking and entering.
Two other people were also arrested at the scene. Tamera Clifton is charged with breaking and entering, and Birdine Cole is also charged with breaking and entering.

Anyone with information about the case should contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
