ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A teacher at Ross County Christian Academy (RCCA) is under investigation following allegations of assaulting a four-year-old student.
The mother of the student reported the incident, prompted by an email she received from the academy. Upon reviewing part of the security footage with the school staff, she claimed to have witnessed the teacher smacking her son’s hand as he sat at his table. Following this, the teacher allegedly removed the student from the classroom, carrying him under her arm. The student mentioned it hurt when the teacher put him down.
Though the child didn’t sustain any injuries, the complainant was advised she could not view more of the camera footage unless a police report was made. The mother has scheduled a meeting on September 29, at RCCA to discuss the incident further and meet a new teacher, as her son will be changing classrooms.
“We have been made aware of an incident that took place involving a student making initial physical contact against one of our teachers and are still currently investigating the situation,” said Valerie Jones, head of the school in a statement on Tuesday. “Unfortunately, due to privacy and minor laws under federal and Ohio law, we cannot provide any further comment at this time related to a minor student of our school.”
The case was referred to the Detective’s Bureau for further investigation.
