JACKSON, Ohio — A serious crash involving a bicyclist and an SUV is currently under investigation by the Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on Monday, at around 7:40 PM.
Eric L. Elkins, 55, Jackson, was riding his bicycle when he was struck by an SUV on Burlington Road. The SUV, driven by McKenzie J. Bouillion, 32, Chillicothe, was traveling on the same road. As Bouillion attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway, the collision took place.
The impact threw Elkins from his bicycle, resulting in serious injuries. He was immediately transported to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson for medical attention and is listed in serious condition. Bouillion, on the other hand, emerged from the incident unscathed.
Multiple agencies, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County EMS, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, provided assistance at the scene.
While the circumstances leading up to the crash are still being pieced together, officials have taken this opportunity to remind bicyclists of the importance of wearing helmets to enhance safety while riding.
