ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A young student may face charges for taking a butter knife to school to “kill” his teacher.
It happened at Adena Elementary School when law enforcement responded to a threats complaint. The incident involved an 8-year-old student who had exhibited ongoing behavioral issues, prompting school staff to conduct daily backpack searches. During one such search, a butter knife was discovered in the student’s possession.
The student, whose identity has not been disclosed due to their age, admitted to bringing the knife to school with the intention of harming the teacher as an act of retaliation for perceived mistreatment, police reports state. The student had a history of discussing revenge, with previous incidents having been reported.
A notable aspect of the case was the student’s parent’s apparent lack of seriousness in addressing their child’s behavior, reports state. Even when picking up the student, they reportedly made light of the situation with a comment.
Law enforcement took the incident seriously, photographing the knife as evidence and contacting the Juvenile Court.
Law enforcement reached out to Children Services and the county prosecutor for more further action.
