ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A father is under investigation investigation after he allegedly placed a tracking device in the car of his daughter’s boyfriend.

Deputies met with with a 17-year-old, who reported discovering an Apple Air Tag device in the teenager’s car. The device, strategically hidden between the carpeting and insulation pad on the front driver’s side floorboard, was located using the teenager’s cell phone, which alerted him to its presence, deputies said.

The individuals chose not to remove the device immediately, allowing deputies to collect it as evidence. The investigation revealed that the Air Tag had been intentionally concealed, requiring the deliberate separation of the carpet from the insulation to hide it in that specific location, deputies reported.

The victim identified the father of his girlfriend as the alleged perpetrator, who allegedly disapproved of their relationship. The victim claimed that the father had threatened to “ruin my life” on multiple occasions. An activated app associated with the Air Tag displayed information indicating that it was registered to a phone number matching the father.

Deputies collected the Air Tag as evidence, later revealing that an internet search confirmed its capabilities as a GPS tracking device. The victim received a written statement form and a victims’ rights packet, with instructions to cease contact with the accused and report any similar incidents to the authorities.

Efforts to contact the accused were unsuccessful, and follow-ups are planned to address the ongoing investigation.
