ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County deputy seized a gun and drugs in what was suppose to be a routine traffic stop. The swift eye of the deputy to spot a possible drug runner is what led to the successful arrest.
In a routine traffic stop conducted by Deputy Jacob JoHansen, a speeding car was stopped on Massieville Road.
The driver, James Michael McWhorter was found to have a suspended license.
Upon questioning, McWhorter’s explanation of traveling from Chillicothe to Izzy’s on US-23 for gas and tire air, then heading to Toad Hollow Road, raised suspicions. JoHansen searched the vehicle and found a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat, loaded with one round in the chamber.
Further inspection uncovered a drawer beneath the passenger seat containing a plastic baggie with a crystal-like substance, presumed to be methamphetamines. McWhorter admitted to active cocaine use during transportation to the Ross County Jail, citing a cocaine addiction, reports read.
McWhorter faces charges of driving under OVI/ALS suspension and weapons under disability for firearm possession while being dependent on cocaine.
He was taken to jail.
