CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — In a major shift, Sam’s Club, owned by Walmart, plans to replace traditional receipt checks at its doors with AI and computer vision technology.

The announcement was part of Walmart’s CES 2024 keynote.

Currently undergoing a pilot in ten Sam’s Club warehouse locations, the technology captures images of shoppers’ carts at exits to confirm purchases. Megan Crozier, Chief Merchant of Sam’s Club U.S., emphasized the time-saving aspect during the announcement.

The nationwide rollout to nearly 600 warehouse clubs is expected by the end of the year, making Sam’s Club the first retailer to deploy this exit technology at scale.
