CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police responded to a call on Monday regarding two individuals passed out in a vehicle at the Certified gas station. Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as Brett Whaley, passed out in the driver’s seat and a woman, identified as Brittany Voiles, in the passenger seat.
Whaley reportedly attempted to start the vehicle upon waking, prompting officers to intervene. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a locked metal case containing suspected narcotics paraphernalia, and a BB gun without an orange tip.
Both Whaley and Voiles were detained and advised of their Miranda rights. Whaley, later provided the code to unlock the metal case, which contained an unknown white substance, syringes, needles, a scale, and personal items.
Field sobriety tests were conducted due to Whaley being found passed out in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition. He reportedly exhibited signs of impairment and admitted to leaving a methadone clinic shortly before the incident.
Whaley was arrested for suspected OVI and his vehicle was impounded. Voiles was found to have an active warrant for probation violation and was transported to the Ross County Jail.
Whaley received a traffic citation for OVI and is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court. Voiles received a court summons for her outstanding warrant.
