BROWN COUNTY, Ohio — Former Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Tim O’Hara, a Republican vying for Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District seat, debuted a captivating advertisement during last night’s Super Bowl LVIII. The commercial showcases O’Hara, in his drill instructor attire, vigorously guiding fictional members of Congress through a rigorous “congressional boot camp.”
O’Hara’s six-figure ad buy within the district, which spans southern Ohio, bolsters his anti-career politician stance while spotlighting his military background.
“I’ve never seen anything more useless than a career politician!” bellows O’Hara in the ad, as the fictitious legislators navigate military-style obstacle courses. “I’ve seen Biden move faster!” he jests in another scene.
“In Congress, I’ll whip the swamp into shape. Understand me!?” O’Hara asserts, prompting a resolute “Yes, drill instructor O’Hara, sir!” from one of the fictional politicos.
O’Hara even calls one of the “career politicians” by the name “Private RINO.”
Drawing from his experience as a Marine drill instructor, O’Hara pledges to tackle pressing issues such as border security and inflation head-on, promising to lead the charge for meaningful change.
A native Ohioan, O’Hara enlisted in the Marine Corps straight out of high school, serving honorably for over seven years and completing multiple deployments as an infantryman. Following his military service, he ventured into entrepreneurship, starting franchises such as pizzerias and donut shops.
O’Hara’s congressional bid comes on the heels of Republican Rep. Brad Wenstrup’s decision not to seek re-election, adding his name to a competitive primary field.
The district is +25 red and went for Donald Trump 3:1 in 2020.
