ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ross County Humane Society, in collaboration with the Ross County Dog Warden, has announced a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals involved in a suspected arson incident that resulted in the death of a pit bull named King.
The incident occurred on February 8th in the 1400 Block of Camelin Hill in Chillicothe.
Authorities say the canine was deliberately set on fire, leading to his death.
Executive Director Jenn Thomas expressed shock and dismay, stating, “In my 10 years here, I think I’ve seen the worst of the worst and then something like this happens. It’s senseless and cruel, and I hope that someone will come forward with information so we can get some sort of justice for King.”
The Humane Society assisted in transporting King’s body to OSU for a necropsy, with preliminary results suggesting that the fire was the cause of death.
In a tragic twist, another dog was discovered several days later on the property’s porch, also deceased. The cause of death for this second dog is yet to be determined.
The case is currently under investigation, and the Ross County Humane Society urges anyone with information to come forward to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and to prevent similar acts of cruelty in the future.
Individuals with information are urged to contact the Ross County Dog Warden at 740-772-5929 or the Ross County Sheriff’s Department at 740-773-1186.
