CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office has provided additional information regarding a high-speed pursuit that concluded in Chillicothe.
Late on Monday evening, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a 2008 White Cadillac due to a failure to signal. Instead of complying, the vehicle accelerated, leading to a high-speed chase along South Bridge Street, where speeds reached up to 90 mph. The driver, identified as Zachariah Douglas, maneuvered onto Eastern Avenue and Stauffer Lane before returning to South Bridge Street.
During the pursuit, Douglas repeatedly veered into oncoming traffic lanes, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles. The chase continued onto 8th Street and South Hickory before Douglas abandoned his vehicle on Knowles Avenue.
After a brief foot pursuit, deputies apprehended Douglas. A small bag containing a white, rock-like substance was discovered nearby. Additionally, Douglas discarded items from his vehicle, suspected to be contraband, though these were not recovered.
Based on their observations, deputies suspect Douglas may be involved in a larger drug trafficking operation, with accomplices potentially retrieving the discarded narcotics. Douglas was also wanted on an active warrant issued by the city of Chillicothe.
He is currently held at the Ross County Jail on multiple charges related to the pursuit.
