CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Ernest J. Moore III, a notorious figure known on the streets as “Dollar Bill,” is scheduled to enter the federal prison system next year, marking the latest chapter in a case that has gripped the Chillicothe community for years.
Moore’s name has been associated with several high-profile cases involving missing and murdered women in the area, casting a long shadow over the small Ohio town.
The 48-year-old, “Dollar Bill,” has been serving a 10-year sentence in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. His conviction stems from a case described by law enforcement officials as “pure torture.”
In a chilling incident in 2015, a 41-year-old man was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center after suffering severe injuries. He recounted to authorities a horrific encounter with Moore, alleging that he had been bound with duct tape, stuffed into a duffle bag, and taken to another location where he endured torture at the hands of Moore. The victim described being burned with lighter fluid, heated silverware, and boiling water, and subjected to sexual assault with a broom before managing to escape.
Moore’s criminal activities extended beyond acts of violence. In 2017, he faced federal charges for drug trafficking, with his operation spanning across state lines from Chillicothe to West Virginia. Judge Robert Chambers of the U.S. Southern District Court handed down a 14-year sentence to Moore, to be served consecutively with his Ohio prison term.
While Moore’s connection to the missing women cases has never been conclusively proven, he has long been considered a person of interest in the disappearance of 35-year-old Charlotte Trego, who vanished without a trace in May 2014. Trego’s case is just one among several others involving women from the area who either went missing or were found deceased under suspicious circumstances.
The list of names includes Tameka Lynch (found deceased), Wanda Lemons (still missing), Charlotte Trego (still missing), Tiffany Sayre (found deceased), Timberly Claytor (found deceased), Rebecca Cade (found deceased), and Shasta Himelrick (found deceased).
Despite lingering suspicions, authorities have yet to definitively link Moore to these disappearances. However, his impending transition into the federal prison system raises questions about whether he holds crucial information that could shed light on these unsolved cases.
Moore’s Ohio sentence is slated to conclude on August 21, 2025, but the cloud of uncertainty surrounding his involvement in the ongoing investigations continues to loom large over the Chillicothe community.
