COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a bid to bolster career technical education across Ohio, Adena Local Schools has been awarded $390,647 in state grant funding. This announcement came as part of the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program unveiled by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted.
The program aims to enhance career technical education access for an additional 10,345 students statewide by providing funding for schools to acquire up-to-date equipment. Governor DeWine emphasized the significance of investing in schools to better prepare students for future careers, stating, “Investing in our schools is an investment into our students’ futures.”
Lt. Governor Husted echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of adapting to evolving technologies in the job market. He emphasized, “To prepare students for those careers, we need to invest in the machinery, technologies, and training that educators need.”
A total of 56 schools across Ohio will benefit from grants totaling over $67.7 million, with Adena Local Schools in Ross County being among the recipients. These funds will enable schools to purchase new equipment for various programs including engineering, manufacturing, health sciences, construction, and more.
Stephen D. Dackin, director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, underscored the significance of career and technical education programs in advancing workforce readiness. He stated, “Ohio’s career and technical education programs are essential to advancing workforce readiness opportunities for students.”
Funding for the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program was allocated in the 2024-2025 state operating budget, along with $200 million for the Career Technical Construction Program. This initiative, announced in November 2023, saw 35 schools receive awards to update or expand their career tech facilities.
The second round of the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant is set to open later this spring, offering more schools the opportunity to enhance their career technical education programs. Schools interested in applying for the second round can visit Workforce.Ohio.gov/CTEEquipment.
