ATHENS, Ohio — Ohio University has been named one of the nation’s top military-friendly schools for the 13th consecutive year, according to a press release from the university.

Viqtory Media, a veteran-owned company and publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine, awarded Ohio University the #6 ranking for Tier 1 research institutions in the nation for 2024-2025. The university also earned the #7 ranking for Military Spouse-Friendly School.

“I am proud to see Ohio University once again recognized as a top military-friendly school,” said Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez. “This honor reflects our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional support and opportunities for our brave servicemen and women as they pursue their educational goals. We are proud to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where every member of our military community can thrive, succeed and have access to a higher education.”

Terry St. Peter, director of Veterans and Military Student Services at Ohio University, echoed President Gonzalez’s sentiment.

“We are honored to be recognized for the support we provide to our military-connected students,” St. Peter said. “It is exciting to be in the Top Ten in the nation for not only supporting our student veterans, but also our military spouses. As a veteran, I recognize the sacrifices the entire family makes in support of the veterans’ service.”

The Veterans and Military Student Services Center at Ohio University provides a variety of programs and services for student veterans, military personnel, and their families. These include:

  • Social and academic support outlets
  • Participation in a military-focused transition seminar
  • Priority course registration
  • Assistance transitioning from military to academic life
  • Deployment and training issue assistance
  • Access to the university’s Veterans Lounge
  • Graduation stoles recognizing their branch of service

Ohio University recently implemented an incentive scholarship for online student veterans to help make education more accessible.

“We are continually looking for ways to improve our support to the warriors and supporting family members,” St. Peter added. “With the support of our university leadership, we have some exciting new programs and services coming next academic year as well, like our new Veterans Success Program.”
