CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Board announced this week that it has received grant funding to construct a 24-Hour Behavioral Health Crisis Facility.
The proposed facility, spanning 14,000 square feet, will feature an 8-chair, 23-hour observation unit, a walk-in assessment area, an 8-bed crisis stabilization unit, and office space for mobile teams to coordinate crisis response.
The board plans to purchase a parcel at 0 E. Main Street, located across from Cooper Glass on the southwest corner of E. Main Street and Rose Street.
Sixth ward city councilman Dan DeMint offered some words about the build. He said he has been contacted by residents who are for — and opposed the building.
“I only aim to inform, let the public have a voice, and offer tips and ways to be heard rather they support or oppose something,” he said. “With that said, I’m informing the public, especially those in the East End, of a project that I will not offer an opinion on and I want to let the public voice their opinion on.”
DeMint said the building needs at least one approval from the city before being constructed.
“I’ve had a few conversations with the Director of PVADAMH, who has laid out plans for a future development on the old rail yard that sits on Main and Rose, just over the overpass coming Eastward. PVADAMH is partnering with Coleman Services to build a 13000 Sq Ft., 23 hour involuntary hold, Crisis Stabilization Unit that would eventually feature an extended stay for more serious patients. My understanding is that this facility would be a lockdown facility that would be similar to the one at Adena Medical Center. There are many factors to consider with this type of project. This project still has to go through an approval process with the City’s planning commission and Zoning board. Please reach out to myself or the director of PADAMH for any questions or concerns.”
A community meeting is being held on April 10th at 3:30 p.m. at town hall for the city’s planning commission to discuss the plans.
