NORMAN, Oklahoma — The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of the Buckeye State, effective until 10:00 PM tonight.
Supercells are expected to form and intensify through the afternoon from Kentucky into southeast Indiana and eventually southwest Ohio. The storm environment favors the potential for a couple of strong tornadoes (EF2+), large hail of 1-2 inches in diameter, and occasional damaging gusts of 60-75 mph.
Residents are advised to have multiple means to receive weather alerts and to stay informed about the latest weather conditions.
It’s important to note the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form. It does not mean that a tornado has been spotted, but it is a good time to review your tornado safety plan and be prepared to take shelter if necessary.
On the other hand, a Tornado Warning means that a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. If a tornado warning is issued for your area, you should take immediate action to protect yourself and others by moving to a small, windowless, interior room on the lowest level of your home.
