WILMINGTON, Ohio — The National Weather Service has confirmed another tornado touched down in Ohio this week.

A brief and weak tornado struck rural areas of southeast Licking County on the evening of April 2nd, 2024, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington. The agency received assistance from the NWS office in Pittsburgh and coordination from the Licking County Emergency Management Agency in making the determination.

The tornado developed near Sand Hollow Road SE in Franklin Township and traveled northeast, causing primarily tree damage and minor structural damage along its path. Damaged trees were observed along Sand Hollow Road SE, Fairview Road, Brownsville Road SE, and Poplar Forks Road SE. Minor structural damage was also reported to barns and outbuildings on Poplar Forks Road SE and Fairview Road. Winds along the path were estimated to be 70-75 mph, consistent with an EF0 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

The EF Scale classifies tornadoes based on wind speed and potential damage. EF0 tornadoes are the weakest category, with winds ranging from 65 to 85 mph.
