ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A call reporting potential distress near Deercreek led to a peculiar situation for Ross County Sheriff’s Deputies on April 16th.
The incident began when a concerned citizen reported hearing yelling near Deercreek, which was experiencing unusually high water levels due to a dam release.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered three individuals who claimed to have been boating and were missing a member of their party. However, as deputies attempted to communicate, the individuals fled into the woods.
Suspecting some-kind of impairment and possible endangerment, deputies initiated a search. Aided by a local resident, they eventually located the group, which included a disoriented male, an evasive female, and a woman who initially caused confusion by referring to a missing “child” (who turned out to be a 27-year-old woman).
Further investigation revealed that the individuals lacked permission to be on the property, displayed signs of impairment, and admitted to using illegal substances. None of them reportedly possessed a valid driver’s license. They claimed their missing companion had fled due to outstanding warrants.
The individuals were released to the care of sober persons. Due to jurisdictional issues, the potential trespass incident will likely be handled by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
