CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Youth Flag Football League says the City of Chillicothe is threatening to remove a building the league has used for concessions and operations for several years.
The league says it pays rent to use the Yoctangee Park Annex and uses the building for concessions, scoreboard controls, and related equipment. A city resident contacted the Guardian, alleging the city is threatening to demolish or remove the structure.
The league says the building was placed with permission from city officials at the time. They also added that they “complied with all requirements, including clearing trees, adding a concrete pad, installing gates, and over-seeding and fertilizing the playing fields,” leaving many wondering why it is an issue now when it wasn’t an issue four years ago.
Community members have expressed confusion and frustration over the city’s decision. Families involved in the league, which serves nearly 400 children annually, see this as a ‘direct attack.’
The Guardian reached out to Bill Bonner, Director of Chillicothe Parks and Recreation, for comment but has not received a response.
In a social media statement, the league said, “Shame on the city’s Parks and Recreation director. You gave us permission now figure out how to keep your word for these kids.”
