CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported threat of violence at Unioto High School on Thursday.
According to officials, a student was heard mentioning a firearm and expressing an intent to harm students and staff.
Authorities learned that another student overheard the comment and, despite allegedly knowing it was a joke, they said, spread the information around the school.
Deputies questioned the student who made the comment, who claimed that a Snapchat post reading “See you all tomorrow” was misinterpreted and that a later comment about having a Glock pistol was intended as a joke. No weapons were found on the student.
The student who reportedly texted friends about the comment that was made was also subsequently suspended.
The student who made the comment was placed back on suspension, the administration said.
The school was not placed on lockdown during the incident.Parents were also never notified about the events on Thursday.
The Union-Scioto School District has faced criticism in the past for a lack of transparency regarding serious incidents.
