PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — A local school district in Pike County is reaching out to veterans who never received their high school diplomas, offering them the chance to earn one – even posthumously.
The program being promoted by the Western Pike Local Schools aims to honor veterans who left school to serve their country during World War II, Korea, or Vietnam. While many veterans from these conflicts have passed away, the district is determined to recognize their sacrifice.
“We want to honor those who answered the call to duty,” said a district representative. “If you know a Western veteran who might qualify, please reach out to us.”
The program is open to veterans who served in the aforementioned wars and can be applied for posthumously. The district is already working with a few veterans, including one whose application is being processed after their passing.
“Our current students would benefit greatly from being a part of this,” the representative added. “We’re honored to assist any veteran in this process.”
For questions or to inquire about a veteran’s eligibility, contact the district at 740-222-8311.
