ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office has released additional details regarding today’s shooting and pursuit. According to Ross County Sheriff George Lavender, deputies and detectives responded to a residence in the 9000 block of Route 772. The sheriff’s office reported that a male subject forced entry into the home of a female acquaintance and threatened the woman and another man with a firearm. The male subject and the woman reportedly got into a physical altercation before the male left the residence, officials with the sheriff’s office said.
The male allegedly fired two rounds toward the house, one of which struck a car in the driveway. A description of the suspect vehicle was shared with area law enforcement, and the South Bloomfield Police Department located the vehicle and engaged in a high-speed pursuit. Speeds during the chase reached over 100 mph.
The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol joined the pursuit, which traveled into Madison County. The pursuit reportedly caused a crash in Mt. Sterling involving a semi-truck.
Eventually, the chase came to an end when the suspect turned a gun on himself, striking himself in the head with a .40 caliber weapon. Officials say the investigation into this case is ongoing. The name of the suspected shooter has yet to be released.
