ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — Human remains were discovered over the weekend by kayakers in Athens County, sparking an investigation by local authorities.
According to a statement from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Hocking River near River Road in Guysville around 7:18 PM on Saturday, June 1. The remains were found in the area, but no additional evidence was discovered at the scene.
Sheriff Rodney Smith stated, “The remains were determined to be that of an adult male wearing blue jeans, a brown belt, and brown boots. The specific description of the decedent does not correspond with any active cases or recently reported missing persons.”
