CHILLICOTHE HEALTH INSPECTIONS REVEAL MULTIPLE VIOLATIONS
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Recent health inspections in Chillicothe have uncovered a series of critical and non-critical violations across several local food establishments.
Valero gas station, located at 41 Jones Rd, underwent an inspection on June 7, 2024, where officials noted critical violations including debris accumulation on the ice machine’s food-contact surface and insufficient hot water capacity in the deli area’s handwashing sink, which was recorded at a mere 70°F. Additionally, refrigerated, ready-to-eat foods were found without proper date marking, posing a risk for foodborne illnesses. Non-critical issues included an expired sanitizer test kit, lack of a covered receptacle in restrooms, and grease build-up around the outdoor grease receptacle.
Huntsman Market, at 6211 Blain Hwy, also faced critical violations. Inspectors corrected on-site issues such as improper hot holding temperatures for pizza and expired deli meats. The market was also cited for improper thawing methods and misuse of wiping cloths. Non-critical concerns included debris on non-food contact surfaces of a Java machine and cream dispenser.
Lastly, Blondie and Brew-Latte Cafe at 36 W Water St was cited for using a handwashing sink for storage, which was corrected during the inspection. Critical violations included debris on the ice machine’s food-contact surfaces and an unprotected outer opening with the back door left open. An expired sanitizer test kit was also noted.
All establishments were provided with corrective actions and comments on improving food safety procedures, including employee illness policy, pest control, and proper food storage and temperatures. The inspections are part of ongoing efforts to ensure public health and safety in the food service industry in Chillicothe.
