CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Recent inspections by the Ross County Health District have identified health code violations at several Chillicothe restaurants and assisted living facilities.
New Grand Buffet (1220 N. Bridge Street):
Inspectors found critical repeat violations on June 18, 2024, including unclean food-contact surfaces on the ice machine and debris accumulation on shelving in the walk-in cooler. Additionally, debris was observed around the dumpster and back door, and the ventilation system needed cleaning. The manager stated they would address all issues.
The Coop Chillicothe (66 N. Paint Street):
An inspection on June 17th revealed a lack of a certified food protection manager on staff, which is required for this risk level. Additionally, an in-use utensil was improperly stored in a container of sugar. The manager stated they were taking the manager certification training and would correct the utensil storage issue. A critical violation involved an insufficient air gap between the flood rim and the water supply inlet of the prep sink. The manager said they would address this as well.
Traditions of Chillicothe (142 University Drive):
Inspectors cited this assisted living facility on June 18th for a critical repeat violation of debris build-up on the food contact surface of the ice machine. Other violations included unclean surfaces in the walk-in cooler and freezer, debris on floors and walls around food prep areas, and a malfunctioning steam table in one kitchen area. The manager stated they would clean and sanitize the ice machine and address the other issues.
Traditions of Hopeton Village (153 University Drive):
An inspection on June 14th found critically low hot water temperatures in the dishwashing machine, rendering it ineffective for sanitizing dishes. The manager instructed staff to use a three-compartment sink for sanitization until the machine is repaired and contacted maintenance for a service call. Inspectors also observed debris accumulation on floors near food prep areas.
The Ross County Health District conducts regular inspections to ensure food safety and sanitation standards are met in local establishments.
