ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Task Force conducted a targeted search on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, at a residence located at 8878 State Route 685, Glouster, Ohio, as part of an ongoing drug investigation. Authorities secured both the home and an adjacent garage, where two suspects were apprehended during the operation.
During the search of the premises, law enforcement officials seized a significant quantity of narcotics, a firearm, and cash. All confiscated items have been forwarded to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) lab for further analysis.
According to Sheriff Rodney Smith, the following arrests were made and individuals were subsequently transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail:
- Gavin R. Smathers, 33 years old, residing at 8878 State Route 685, Glouster, was arrested based on an Adult Parole Violation holder.
- Jamie F. Freer, 28 years old, also residing at 8878 State Route 685, Glouster, faces charges including Possession of Drugs (F-5) and Drug Trafficking (F-4).
The case is slated to be reviewed by the Athens County Prosecutors Office, with additional charges anticipated.
