CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A local woman was shocked to discover that someone had been tracking her during a trip to visit family.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, officers were called to a home on Ashley Drive on Tuesday evening. The woman reported that she had driven to Lancaster to visit family, and on her way back, her cellphone alerted her to a nearby “Apple AirTag.”
The woman told officers that the phone prompted her to contact law enforcement since the AirTag was not hers. She downloaded an app that allowed her to locate the AirTag, which was eventually found inside her vehicle, under the backseat on the passenger side.
Despite the unsettling discovery, the caller said she was not in fear for her life.
A check of the AirTag’s serial number did not reveal any information about its owner.
The investigation is ongoing. The victim believes that someone must have gotten into her vehicle and placed the AirTag there.
