BAINBRIDGE, Ohio — A Ross County family made a shocking discovery on July 17 when a live World War II-era grenade was found in their garage, according to a report from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to Shawnee Street in the village of Bainbridge after receiving a call from a woman who said her grandson had found a “bomb.” The woman led deputies to the garage, where they inspected a black cylinder that appeared to be a very old grenade with the pin still intact. The caller mentioned that her grandfather was a Vietnam Veteran.
Additional units arrived and, after reviewing internet sources, confirmed that the item was possibly a World War II-era grenade. Deputies then contacted the Franklin County Bomb Squad for assistance.
The Franklin County Bomb Squad arrived, collected the item, and transported it to a safe location where it was prepared for detonation. The grenade was successfully detonated without incident.
