CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Law enforcement officials are investigating a string of credit card skimmer incidents that have plagued grocery stores across southern Ohio in recent weeks.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this week that skimmers were found attached to card readers at the Corner Market on Charleston Pike and Save-A-Lot on Western Avenue in Chillicothe. Similar devices were previously reported Washington Court House.
Authorities believe the skimmers may be connected, and are following leads after detectives in Washington Court House provided a possible suspect description. This includes a blue Dodge Caravan with a Virginia license plate. While the Ross County Sheriff’s Office has not released the license plate number or potential suspect names, they have confirmed the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Intelligence Unit identified the vehicle’s owner.
The investigation expanded further with the discovery of additional skimmers found in southern Ohio.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant. Here are some recommended precautions:
- Regularly monitor bank statements for suspicious activity or unauthorized purchases.
- Before swiping your card at a reader, inspect the device for tampering or unusual attachments.
