ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Deputies in Ross County pursued an ATV operator on July 21, leading to multiple charges after a high-speed chase.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a yellow 2002 Polaris Trail Blazer 250 operating eastbound on Route 50 near Blaine Highway. The stop was initiated because riding an ATV on a highway is illegal.
The operator, identified as Codey Hatfield, reportedly fled from deputies at a high rate of speed. The chase ended when the ATV turned onto Shady Glen, where deputies managed to overtake and stop the vehicle. Hatfield surrendered without further incident.
Deputies discovered that Hatfield did not possess a valid driver’s license. A search of his person yielded drugs and paraphernalia, and several pounds of marijuana were found in two black trash bags on the ATV. Deputies seized the marijuana and suspected methamphetamine.
Hatfield now faces multiple felony charges related to the incident.
