COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus woman admitted to buying guns for someone who was not allowed to own them in a scheme known as a “straw purchase.”
Connie Bartley, 41, pleaded guilty in federal court on [date] to two counts of lying on forms when she purchased two handguns at a gun show in February 2021. Investigators say Bartley bought the guns for a friend with a criminal record who was prohibited from owning firearms. The guns were later found at the friend’s apartment during a search.
Federal prosecutors warned of the serious consequences for those who help others illegally obtain guns. Bartley could face up to 10 years in prison for each count.
