CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A former executive officer of the Scioto Valley Association of Realtors has been indicted on two felony counts related to theft from the organization, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced today.
Brenda Free, 58, of Chillicothe, appeared for arraignment in Ross County Common Pleas Court today. She faces charges of theft, a fourth-degree felony, and forgery, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment alleges that Free misappropriated $53,968 from the association and forged a $1,500 check using her secretary’s signature for her personal benefit.
The Scioto Valley Association of Realtors serves the counties of Jackson, Pike, Ross, and Vinton.
The indictment follows an investigation by the Economic Crimes Unit within Yost’s Consumer Protection Section. The case is set to be prosecuted by attorneys from this unit.
Indictments are formal charges and do not imply guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The alleged offenses occurred between January 1, 2016, and November 22, 2023.
